    Scarification

    Scarifying is the process of removing thatch from a lawn to improve its overall health and appearance. Thatch is a layer of dead organic material, such as grass clippings, moss, and roots, which sits on the surface of the soil between the grass and the ground. When this layer becomes too thick, it can obstruct essential oxygen, water, and nutrients from reaching the soil and grass roots. Excessive thatch can also encourage moss growth and disease, leading to a weak, patchy lawn. Regular scarifying helps reduce this build-up, promotes stronger root growth, improves drainage, and creates the ideal conditions for a thicker, greener, and healthier lawn.

    Best times for our Scarification Service;

    Light Scarification – Early Spring (Late March/April)

    Heavy Scarification – Early Autumn (September/October)

    Aeration

    Aeration is the process of creating a series of holes in the lawn using a mechanical aerator. Like scarifying, aeration allows essential water, oxygen and other nutrients to access the soil and root levels of the lawn, as well as reducing compaction in the soil. This improved airflow encourages stronger root development, leading to healthier, more resilient grass that is better able to withstand wear, drought and heavy use. Aeration also helps break up thatch build-up and improves drainage, preventing water from pooling on the surface. As a result, the lawn can recover more quickly from stress and maintain a thicker, greener appearance throughout the growing season.

    Best times for Our Aeration Service – Autumn (September-November)

    (Both scarification or aeration can be carried out as individual treatments or part of a lawn renovation)
